A Favicon is a small 16×16, or 32×32 pixel image that adds a graphical icon next to your website bookmark link. This is a handy feature that can help your users identify your website in their pile of bookmarks and it’s also a great way to help get your brand out there. Most out of the box CMSs come with a default favicon for you to use, but what if you want a custom one?
Well its pretty simple, you can get a .ico plugin for the adobe products, photoshop, illustrator, flash, and build your own image or you can use this free online favicon tool. It’s extremely simple to use and pretty neat. So go get to designing and then when your all done save your file as “favicon.ico” and stick it in your website’s document root… example http://www.example.com/favicon.ico. Then it’ll show up in your browsers address bar or when you make a bookmark. Give it a few minutes for it to show up after you upload it and also make sure to refresh a few times or clear your browser cache if you’re having problems seeing it.
I should probably get to making mine now too eh?… Maybe a shark fin?
