This is more of a rant then useful information.

Ever since Digg showed up in the mid 2000’s webmasters have been clammering to get their material dugg. In my opinion Digg is like a joke news site, like the Daily News show on Comedy Central. Now don’t get me wrong, I love funny news, that whole funny because its true thing is great. It gets old quick though, I’m more akin to actually learning something, not reading about how Jean Claude Van Damme Gets Serious About His Craft. To me Digg is pretty much the paparazzi of the internet. Every time I read something like that I can actually feel myself becoming more stupid. Of course all those Digg users can’t be wrong about there being some value to those types of stories, or can they?
Now, why I think Digg sucks for webmasters working on self promotion is, Digg users don’t like to digg a story the poster is trying to get dugg if its his own story. People don’t like a salesman. They can’t be trusted and only care about themselves. Dugg stories also have a tendency to break websites. If you’re web host is not prepared to take the beating of thousands of users an hour or more, your server will most likely crash or your site suspended for excessive traffic. Unless you’re using a host like Site5, which will amazingly move your website to a beefier server to stave off problems, then they’ll notify you of the change.
Then again Digg can be slightly beneficial to webmasters, it allows them to get their names out there in the wild wild interweb and possibly gather some backlinks, but very few of those visitors from Digg will ever return to read your website again.
I think we can conclude that overall, Digg sucks for Webmasters trying to promote their own sites. It’s good for Van Damme though.
