I’m going to try a little experiment here on sharkfoo. I will see if creating a post just once per day will produce a steady increase in daily traffic, hopefully it will. Another one of my goals is to get 500 visitors checking the site, once a day, in the next 30 days. Also, I will not spend a dime for advertising for my blog. This could be a little tough, but lets take a look at some of the techniques I will have to use with zero advertising budget.

Ways to get Website Traffic

  1. Post frequently, I will make just one post per day for 30 days, I will most likely find the need to increase this, but we’ll start with one.
  2. Link exchanges, these are tough to get when you’re starting with not that much traffic, other webmasters don’t like to trade links with lesser sites, also it can negatively affect their page-rank.
  3. Guest posting, creating valuable posts on others authors websites that include a link back to my own site.
  4. Article submission, I’ve heard that submitting content to article directories can increase traffic, but when you give content away for other sites to use, it decreases the value of the content. I will try with just one article at first to see if it’s even worth it.
  5. Social bookmarking, this is my first foray into using this technology. So far I’ve submitted to Stumbleupon and I also have a ping going to Technorati, but I have not received any traffic back in return. Maybe someone could be nice enough and give me a stumble thumbs up, or dig a post for me?
  6. SEO, search engine optimization, the art of grabbing higher locations in search engines using targeted keywords. I’ve started to see the effects of SEO in one of my test websites, it seems very powerful, but takes a lot of work finding keywords then implementing them.

These are pretty much all the techniques I’ll be using to get to my traffic goal of 500 visitors per day. I’ll be posting every now and then about my progress so you can follow along if you like, also I will post up a list of the plugins I’m using with my Wordpress installation, but we’ll save that for another post. ;)
